The best thing about SATC is Patricia Field.

May 29, 2008 · 1 Comment

Ok ok ok. My patience is definitely wearing thin on all the Sex and the City craziness, but there is one thing that still makes me happy about franchise and that is Patricia Field. Some may argue that her genius is what makes the movie and I would have to agree with them. Not only is Patricia Field the costume designer and stylist that put together all of those looks for Carrie Bradshaw and Co., she is also a fierce business woman. She came out with her own line of shoes for Payless all priced between $25-$35. AND she has plans for more brand extension abroad!! Just brilliant.

I think we were talking about her role as a stylist, retailer, business woman and entrepreneur. Oh yeah, and her role as “den papa” to all the kids at her store.

I don’t know what we were laughing so hard at.

I saw these the night before at Payless and thought “why the hell am I thinking about buying Miu Miu heels when I can get these and look just as fab.???” Seriously ladies- the gold pair are to die for!

As I was walking into the party (which was right next door at Patricia Field’s store) a crew wanted to interview me. The bag I was carrying is a clutch from the Patricia Field for Payless collection. Cute, right?

Over it: Sex and the City

May 26, 2008 · 4 Comments

Is anyone else experiencing Sex and the City fatigue? I used to think the show was mildly entertaining and once the frenzy started taking over New York City a couple weeks ago I slowly started not to care as much. Now, the premiere is tomorrow, I have two major pieces due on the movie and a segment to do this week and I can’t seem to get motivated to talk about Carrie’s fashion statements. I also know what happens in the movie (e-mail me if you want to know too) so I am even more “whatevs.” about it.  Everyone is having shoe buying parties or girl hour cocktail “get togethers” and all I want to do is watch ESPN’s coverage of the French Open. is that normal for a fashion and retail expert?

Would you buy these shoes?

May 26, 2008 · Leave a Comment

I live for the Memorial Day Barneys shoe sale. Today I did my usual stroll around the 4th floor with one of my best friends. She bought a pair of bright pink Louboutins and I… contemplated buying these:

The Miu Miu bejeweled strappy sandals orginally $790 down to $550.  Barneys did something unheard of for me- they put these little gems on hold so I haven’t pulled the trigger yet, but definitely thinking about it…

In case you missed it…

This is me in the May issue of Marie Claire wearing a Reiss dress. Remember when I had to get up at 6:00 am to get up for the shoot last December??  They are geniuses over there- I definitely did not look like this when I got up that morning. Happy Memorial Day!!

Changes!

May 21, 2008 · Leave a Comment

The best thing about having amazing people around me always is that I get the best advice ever!!  I’ve had several meetings with “my team” and we have collectively decided to make some updates to the blog that will make it WAY cooler including a fun name change. The content will of course stay the same for the most part, just harder, better, faster, stronger!

Fashion and politics: stand by your party.

May 9, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Would you buy this bag if you knew part of the money from the sale went to a political party? Designers Rachelle Copeland and Emily Ironi of Alexis Hudson think you would. They teamed up with Los Angeles artist Greg Miller to create the “Change” bag which embodies the creator’s vision of the future, i.e., having a healthy planet,  economy and society. But what does that even mean anyway? The bag costs $95 with 10% of the proceeds will go to support the Democratic campaign. I’m just curious- are the designers donating to a specific candidate or the DNC?? And the mission of designing bag is to use style and fashion in order to rally a new audience of voters. Last time I checked, 99.9% of the fashion industry and “it” bag carrying girls were already registered Democrats. Not that I’m the expert (when it comes to politics), but if you are going to make a political statement wouldn’t you do it in the form of an overt “statement” tee shirt the Marc Jacobs did it? P.S. designer Nili Lotan sent me a “war theme” scarf with machine guns on it. Does that mean I support our president if I wear it? Just sayin’…

Fashion Week in Cleveland…

May 9, 2008 · Leave a Comment

OK before everyone starts to freak about “yet another fashion week in a small city,” here me out.  I am in love with the little city of Cleveland. Last year I went for a weekend and it was fabulous.  The Indians were playing the gross Red Sox, the people were seriously lovely (even though their team lost), the food was great and I was actually a little sad to be coming back to New York.  With that said, I wasn’t really sure what they meant by “fashion week in Cleveland” when I came across this article on cleveland.com.  This piece outlined a talk given by Megan Spagnolo, costume curator at the Western Reserve Historical Society about the history of children’s clothes.  How cute, right?? Did you know the color “pink” was orginally meant for boys because red was seen as a masculine color? Did you also know boys and girls used to wear dresses? Why is Cleveland so damn wholesome?? Ooh I just want to give it a good squeeze!!

$%#%^&*! American Airlines!!!

May 9, 2008 · Leave a Comment

I usually love flying American Airlines but today I’ve had it. I won’t go into the long story of why I hit a wall with them today, or how they kept me on the phone for 30 minutes talking nonsense, or how they totally mis- informed me about one of my tickets expiring, or how their annoying customer service doesn’t have a direct line for complains. I will say I know understand why the airline industry is coming a part at the seams. Argh!!

The Bowery: NYC’s new retail space.

May 8, 2008 · Leave a Comment

(Perry Ferrel, John Varvatos and Slash)

(Joan Jett- she still looks and sounds AMAZING)

I’m sure you’ve been hearing the buzz. The Bowery, the street once known for the best place to score a $25 hooker and a bag of blow is now home to some of the coolest designer stores on the planet- and peeps aren’t so excited about it.  Just last month John Varvatos hosted an opening party at the old CBGBs- but here’s the thing- that’s actually their space now. For those die hard music fans, that bit of news was hard to swallow. I mean, how can the home of punk music and New York’s underground be a place where $400 cashmere sweaters are being sold?? Varvatos DID do a good job preserving the original facade, so I’m not so offended by it (in fact I love it),  but would love to hear you all think…

Out on a Sunday night.

May 8, 2008 · 1 Comment

Me with Shane Sigler at Harry Josh’s dance party on the top of Gramercy Park Hotel. While some celebs and fashion luminaries were resting up for the Met’s Costume Institute gala on Monday, a lot of them were dancing up a storm at Harry’s bash.

There is nothing better than hanging out with good friends while dancing to Marky Mark. Even if it is a school night…
